Land Agents' records
Research Guide to land agent records at Queensland State Archives.
The Crown Lands Alienation Act, 1868 defined various Land Agent Districts within the State, and appointed Land Agents for each district. Land Agent Districts were proclaimed and staffed until 1991. Land Agents were abolished in favour of District Land Offices by the Land Act Amendment Act, 1991 which came into force on 31 December 1991.
The Land Agents' records held at Queensland State Archives date from 1855. Registers are the most common record held in the collection. These are used mainly to locate other information about land transactions, applications for leases, purchases, and licenses.
