Research Guide to divorce records from 1861 to 1976.
The Queensland State Archives (QSA) holds divorce files created before 1976 in the Supreme Court, Southern District, Brisbane, and files created from 1874 to 1950 in the Supreme Court, Northern District, Townsville.
In 1976 the Family Court of Australia (now the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia) took responsibility for divorce proceedings. For information about proof of divorce from 1976 onwards, contact the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.
