Chapter 2.1 – Historical and social context of your role

An overview of the JP’s role and a summary of key duties is in this chapter of the Duties of Justices of the Peace (Qualified) handbook. As JPs, you belong to a centuries-old system of voluntary legal officers known as Justices of the Peace. This historical context is also looked at in the chapter.
