This project was undertaken to assess the extent and severity of salt-affected land in South East Queensland (SEQ). In doing so, it developed a baseline dataset by which salinity related targets can be monitored and evaluated and on-ground investment can be prioritised.

A total of 574 new saline sites were described throughout SEQ. Approximately 17 884 ha of salt-affected land was mapped, with the majority (85%) occurring in coastal areas (<5 m Australian Height Datum).

The Lockyer Creek, Mid Brisbane and Middle Warrill Creek Subcatchments have the greatest extent of salt outbreaks in inland SEQ.

A significant area of salt-affected land was found to be within the urban footprint which is likely to cause significant economic, environmental and social impact.
